I have been dying to go on a vacation or even a small trip the last year or so. Alas neither of those are in the near future. But I can dream right?

Ahh top five vacations of mine is an Alaskan cruise. Yes please.

I don't know where this is but it's oh so pretty.

I want to visit NYC so bad..soo bad.

I really do love going on cruises. They are so easy of a vacation to plan and pretty affordable too and so much fun! I've been on two..to Keywest/Bahamas and Bahamas/StThomas/Virgin Islands.

There are times I get homesick..more so lately than in the seven years since I moved here.Happy Saturday!*I somehow got my blog stuck on the new layout..I hope I like it! lol

I don't really have any WIPs for today because everything I've been working on is done. I'm going to put scrapbooking aside for awhile because I'm just not into it right now for whatever reasons. I'm afraid though that I won't want to go back to it or it will feel like a chore like it's been feeling like lately. I guess I shall see.

Something cool happened within the last week..the band Eisley has been my favorite band for seven years. One of my all time favorite musicians is Sherry Dupree Bemis from Eisley. Long story short she bought one of my rings from my etsy shop!! How awesome is that? I don't know that I will ever get over that :) She seems really down to earth and 'real' which is refreshing.

Here are some projects I want to do..

I'd like to makes some bookmarks (yes again, one can never have enough bookmarks!) to put in with my Valentines day cards.

As if I don't have enough stationery for ten life times.. I want to make some fun mail art!

I want to get back into artjournaling/scrapbooking hybrid (thats what I call it)..I'm loving it more than I love scrapbooking lately.

In September I bought a plethora of jump rings because I've been wanting to make my own mini books/journals. I think I'll do my first with a theme.

For the past year I've been having fun crafting with buttons so I want to make these.

So many crafty projects, so little time! Sadly ten or so days into scrapbooking I'm already burnt out on it :( That makes me sad because I used to love it so much. It doesn't help that I'm 18 months behind and I have a stack of about 50 photos to do..as well as the 7 I accidentally left at Costco lol

WIP Valentines day cards

This weeks Work in Progress is Valentines day cards. I actually started on them a few days before Christmas. I think when it comes to crafting you have to jump ahead a few months. I am only making a handful so they should only take me a week to do.

I think this next year I am going to make myself OCD about making lists whether its every day stuff I want to get done or craft projects. I just can't keep up with my own brain! And I find that I get more done when I can check completed tasks off.

A tutorial of sorts..

Besides pretzels and oreos you can make nutterbutters..or you get Ritz Crackers..put peanut butter in between them and cover them in the bakers chocolate. Just make sure when you are melting the chocolate to monitor it because it can burn. You kind of have to work quickly with the chocolate because it dries pretty fast. If you end up making something similar to this let me know what it is an how it turned out :D

No crafty work in progress this week. The last four days have consisted of taking care of this new family member and integrating her with my two pugs as well as lots of walks.

I adopted Susie this past weekend from a rescue (all my dogs are rescues of some sort)..she is such a well behaved dog and so smart! I can't imagine why she would be given up!! People say that about my second pug but I can see that her high energy might be a reason. That dog is a tazmanian devil.

I hope to get some craft time in today or tomorrow. Now I must clean! I've learned to get stuff when I can and not when I want to, ha!!

I've been super crafty this past week and I'm loving it!! Right now my work in progress project is some art journaling I am doing for a swap. But I made the rings (Which can be found at NerdGirlCreations.etsy.com) and my cell phone cover this past weekened. Next up is either Valentines day cards or some scrapbooking. I'm leaning towards scrapping as I haven't done any since August.

I am not ready to address them just yet though..I am going to include a small gift in with the cards so I need to start on making those, ha! This is my craft desk and scrapbooking desk. Such a mess. I've now spent about 15 hours on the Christmas cards and I'm about 75% done. To be honest I am over working on them. I started in September I think but I think next time if I am going to make so many I need to start in March. I've been whipping up scarves as well lately.

Once the Christmas cards are done, what's on my project agenda next? Valentines day cards of course and spring themed cards. At some point I will go back to scrapbooking and art journaling again, I think.

I debated on whether to blog about this subject but it's something I feel passionate about and I'd be annoyed with myself if I didn't. I apologize if this post is long but I don't apologize for the content.

I noticed out in blogland (at least the types of blogs I read) that only one or two posted about it being Veteran's day on Friday yet everyone blogs about all the other holidays. I am not talking about people who blog here and there but people who blog on a regular basis. Has acknowledging Veteran's day become a taboo subject? Is it now not politically correct to thank a Veteran? I surely hope not. It bothered me a little to read my blog roll on Friday and just see those few acknowledge the day for what it really was..it's not just a random day that there is no mail..it's not another day for stores to up their sales or a day off of work for some people. It's a day to honor those who have selflessly (no matter what reason a person has for signing up for the military it is a selfless act) pretty much signed their life away. I think America, especially the younger generations take these selfless people for granted and just kind of forget about them. I think America has forgotten we still have a war going on. I am ecstatic of the Iraq pullout going on as I type this, I can't even tell you how much. I stand on the fence as far as what I feel about war (and I think each war is different) but I 100% support the US military. Tonight I watched a documentary and it was Soldiers from the Iraq war that had been wounded, talking about their experience. One Marine, missing an arm was out in public and someone asked him what happened to his arm and the Marine told him and the guy asked 'Oh is that still going on?" I can not fathom being so ignorant of not only what is going on in the world but what my country is involved in. How ignorant, selfish and disgusting that man's response was to a US Marine.

I guess the point of this post is that America is forgetting what these people give up...some giving up their lives. I think their efforts are being taken for granted. I believe that America, and our government is failing our military. Our country is not taking care of our Veterans and I believe that this is has been happening through out the past few wars. Go to the main place in your city where homeless 'hang out' and see just how many are U.S. Veterans. We are failing our Soldiers who come back with out an arm, without two legs...the high number of Veterans who come back with PTSD that go unnoticed...the Soldiers who silently and not so silently deal with the horrors of war who eventually take their lives.

Something that really tugs at my heart strings is being out in public and seeing a Veteran missing a leg or an arm, etc. About a month ago I saw who I am pretty sure was a homeless Veteran (I have a keen eye for spotting soldiers out of uniform for some reason) of one of the present wars (he looked to be in his 30's) who was missing a leg. I had to do all I could not to tear up. This is appalling.

I am married to a four time, possibly five time war Veteran. So it's hard for me to really grasp how Americans are forgetting there's still a war going on because I am reminded of it every day. My husband has been fortunate that even though he's been deployed four times that he doesn't suffer from any physical injuries and the PTSD isn't nearly as bad as some Soldiers. I do believe that everyone that goes to war and sees horrible things has some level of PTSD. If one went through what they do (and I believe some go through a lot worse of things than others) and didn't have PTSD then something is not right in the first place. Our government needs to step up and take care of our Veterans. I have read countless books and seen many documentaries and heard personal stories of Veterans not receiving the care that they deserve. Our government wants to send our military to countless wars but they aren't wanting to take care of them at the end of the day. My husband is getting kicked out of the military in a little over a year..why? Because even though he will have been in the military for 13+ years, been deployed five times he hasn't been promoted high enough that the Army feels he should be. A lot of that is because there's only so many slots for each rank and you can only do so much with that. Honestly this tears at my heart. I can not even imagine giving up so much of my life and doing what he has to only be told "Sorry, you're no longer good enough for us". So in a year or so he will join the ranks of all the other unemployed, he will be just like them except he has done more for our country than some people who get far more benefits from this country than he will probably ever see in his life, yes, I just went there. The only that will set him apart from those standing in the unemployed line is that he is eligible to buy a house (which isn't that hard now is it?) and he will have a few years of college paid for (which again isn't that hard to attain) and that will be it. He had plans of retiring in the military and he came so close to it...and all for what? At the end to be kicked out.

If you read all that I thank you, truly. At the end of the day...I just ask that you don't forget..no matter what your political stance is, these are human beings that have given up so much. And if you want to do more even if you feel it's a little bit I can steer you in to the right direction even if it's just writing to a deployed soldier or sending them a couple of books or even just writing them a postcard and saying Thank you. And if I lost some readers because this was too intense or not what they want to read then..don't let the armored door hit you on the way out.

I didn't post a Work in Progress on Wednesday because I don't have one. On monday I went to a specialist and on Tuesday I had yet another oral surgery..the second in five weeks. Sadly my mouth is still in pain although the infection I had for five months has healed. I am now half way done with my Christmas cards! But that was halted because I burned my finger really badly. Needless to say with all that and other stuff going on this has not been a good week!

Yesterday we got quite a bit of snow, not sure how much though. I decided to go out when it was snowing to get a few shots of the snow mixed with the fall colors for fear it would melt before I could get to it. I would have liked to get more shots but it was cold (this southern California girl forgot her mittens inside the house) and my camera was getting wet. But I still had fun!

I thought I would try this out, given as a suggestion by one of my favorite scrapper/army wife bloggers StephanieHowell.com and to just be bold I guess haha!!

1. I don't know why but I don't have a lot of energy, ever. I joke I was born without a metabolism. The simplest of things makes me physically tired like just going to the grocery store for a couple of hours. Because of this I make myself workout in the morning just in case I get too tired to workout later.

2. My husband is deployed a lot, I'd say more so than the average Soldier. I might make it seem easy to some but it's not. I don't know how anyone could be okay with knowing their spouse and best friend is in a war zone. The ONLY thing that gets me by is prayer.

3. This one is very hard to put out there for everyone to see but my husband and I have been trying for a baby on and off (yay deployments) for six years, this is one of the hardest thing I've gone through and mostly alone. I am finally mentally and emotionally able to grasp that it probably won't happen and I finally feel relief about it. I never wanted to end the 'process' bitter and heart broken over it but that it was a choice. I'm not really sure that makes sense though.

4. I'm a dork in that I love sending and receiving snail mail..postcards..penpal letters..packages, all of it but the bills.

5. I bite my nails and have never had a professional mani/pedi haha

6. I have always looked up to people who adopt and are foster parents, and do it with love. These are heroes to me.

7. I've been through a lot of really bad stuff in my life and I don't know if it's made me a stronger person or an overall weak person.

8. I love both my dogs so much. Lucky is older and pugs don't live long and when I think about her dying it makes me tear up. I can't imagine not having her in my life. I love that dog so very much. This, coming from a prior dog hater. I hope our pets go to heaven.

I got this Jack Lalanne juicer for $5 yesterday! I got it at a garage sale and I felt a bit iffy about that but it looks like it's never been used though! I plan on learning about different 'recipes' of drinks to make. Last week I bought the green machine naked juice and I was a little scared I wouldn't like it but luckily for me it tastes mostly like pineapple and I like pineapple! Yesterday I bought the blue machine but I have yet to try it.

My blog will be on hiatus for several weeks most likely. My husband is coming home on leave in a few days from Afghanistan. We have a lot of fun things planned like going to Ikea TWICE! And going to the antique mall not far from here. Don't miss me too much :)

I saw these SMALL Pyrex 'casserole' dishes last week at the thrift store but they were too much so I took a chance and didn't buy them. Today they happened to be half off and still there! They are so cute! I plan on using them somehow in my craftroom.

I don't know why but lately I've been into painting my nails. I've always done my toenails but I stopped painting my finger nails because I get frustrated when it chips less than 24 hours of putting it on. The OCD part in me sees that chip and thinks I have to take it all off and start from scratch haha

I want something more clean looking but yet still be able to keep things organized. Most of the things in these organizers are little random things or stationery, so basically hard to organize items. I'm still have blogger issues. I can't stay logged in to comment most of the time and I can't stay logged in to edit things on my blog. I have issues with Pinterest but that's a whole other story. Anyone else having these issues too?

I splurged a couple of weeks ago and bought myself some deco tape and FINALLY some washi tape! With my brother here visiting for awhile and helping out around the house and with yardwork I have more time to be crafty, so maybe I will get back to art journaling!

This is a cassette tape holder that I thrifted for $2 and then painted. I thought it was a great idea for storing deco tape :D I love it!! I'm all about things being super organized.

I'm doing a bit of spring cleaning & I needed to clean under the couches & get all the toys out from under them. Needless to say I got distracted, 1.5 hours later & had moved everything in the livingroom. I'm pretty sure I won't keep it like this but for the summer I'll leave it like this.

This is the awesome package I got from Sassafras, my favorite scrapbook supply company!! It was pretty much the best package ever.

Coconut frap, with coffee, without it, with mocha without it..any way is yummy!

The current state of my desk..on that note I'm off to go listen to Eisley's The Valley and clean up my craft room!

A few months ago I decided to do a photo a day for a year while my husband was deployed. Today he left so today is day one. I won't be posting a photo every day or even every photo, just my favorites! Why is he shaving in a parking lot? We woke up early this morning after only a few hours of sleep and as with most things lately he forgets to do things so he forgot to shave. A parking lot is as good as any place right?
