Craft DIY

Today I am doing a craft DIY for once...I had a black bookshelf that I wanted to repaint so that is what I did. I painted several coats of a mustard yellow and made it look like an old piece of furniture. I have to say though I officially hate repainting furniture. I'm just not patient enough for it.

I LOVE postcards so I decided to take a bunch of my vintage postcards and decoupage them on to the newly painted bookshelf. I wanted them to have round corners like a lot of vintage postcards have so I used a craft corner punch. I was torn between using postcards that I knew were worth money..in the end I used them anyway.

Once I glued the postcards to the bookshelf I did a clear coat of decoupage on the front of the postcards. Then next up I did a few coats of polyurethane. I have done this project a few times and I know that if it's a surface that you use a lot then the postcards end up getting worn down so I wanted to put several coats of polyurethane on it. I am using mine for, well, a bookshelf in my craft room so I shouldn't have this problem.
